Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Douglas Whitfield. I have an MS in Information Science and a double BA in Biology and Communications, both from UNC-Chapel Hill. I never know how to answer where I’m “from”, but then again, that wasn’t asked.
I run Open Madison Group (OMG!) and help with the global Open Everything events. Neither of those pays the bills, but in a totally Marxian way, I am disconnected from what pays the bills.
Why are you attending PhotoCampMilwaukee?
To have some fun and meet some people outside the normal technology people. Also, to evangelize for Creative Commons. Potentially learn about “open” camera equipment, if it exists.
What’s in your camera bag?
Nothing good enough to tell a bunch of photogs.
If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
Probably about ways to make Open Everything events interesting to photogs. Openness isn’t just about Creative Commons. It can also be about quality, independent journalism.
If you were to attend your dream session, what would it be about?
I’d like to hear a Creative Commons luminary speak. If not that, I’d like to learn about how to make your significant other feel sexy with intimate photography. Even just hearing someone that does lingerie model photography or even pornography would be interesting, though I feel the techniques for a stranger are much different.
Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I prefer calling soccer “football”, though usually I resort to futbol (Spanish) or fotboll (Swedish).
Where can we find you?
